2nd Post: All of my hydraulics works off of one resevour. Everything works well EXCEPT my Power Steering. The power steering cylinder has been overhauled. The power pump has been overhauled. It has a new orbitor motor (under the steering wheel). No stopped up lines and no air in lines. The Power Flow Divider has been inspected and everything moves freely. After doing all this I still have NO Power Steering. What's my next expensive move?

I just got back from the Pump Repair Shop and they checked out the orbitor motor and flow divider. They both checked out ok. I gotta look for something else wrong.

After spending a lot of money (for nothing) and a lot taking off and putting back on. I traced everything down to the Power Steering Cylinder. Now, earlier I took the 2 lines off and manually turned the front wheels. So the cyclinder wasn't stuck and fluid did come out of it. The steering felt just like brakes that needed bleeding. Well that's just what I did. Lot's of air and milky fluid. Duh! All other hydraulic bleeds into the resevoir, the cylinders don't have anywhere to go. Anyway the it's working fine now. Just a $2 wrench did the trick.

actually you didnt waste money...you learned something no trade school or book could ever give you...experience is the worlds best teacher.

you mite change all the hydraulic fluid now...all that milk is water and no point tearing up those fresh parts with contaminated fluid.

good luck

We had a MF 35 with a Davis loader/backhoe on it that the power steering didn't work, sometimes. Checked all the things you have checked and couldn't find anything wrong.

Jacked up the front end and dropped the tie rods....we couldn't turn the right spindle with a four pipe wrench and a piece of pipe. It took grease but the thrust bearing had disentigrated and pieces of the race were jammed between the spindle and housing.

Just a thought!!

was the power steering working at all before you started overhauling the components??? sounds to me like everything has been refurbished so there has to be something being overlooked during inspection or was not assembled properly...first thing i'd check is pump pressure...then pressure to slave cylinder.

My Power Steering was working. Then it would quit maybe in the middle of doing something. I would work the lift up and down and the back boom arm up and down. Eventually I would get the power steering back. It finally quit. I just had the power steer pump overhauled on Feb 26, 06. I've removed the lines to the cylinder between the front wheels and the wheel will move freely from left to right. I have no hoses that are stopped up or crimped. I'm guessing right now it must have something to do with the flow divider. But that is a simple part and everything seems to be moving freely inside it.

Ron

One of the tests when trouble shooting the ps on one of my tractors was to check the output pressure to the steering. I had to buy another guage to check this high.

Anyhow, It seems that one whould have to check what the diverter valve is putting out and go from there either forward or backward in the system.
