Allis B Brake Pins Frozen

Greetings,

While I had things apart for painting I decided to go ahead and replace the brake bands on my 47 Allis B. The left one came off fine but on the right one both pins that the bands pivot on are frozen into the axle housing ... REALLY tight. Any tips from someone who's been there, done that, on getting these out? Heat? Plenty of liquid wrench? Prayer?

Thanks for the tips guys. I"m going to try the drill trick, I think driving them out is the only thing that"s going to work.

I used a drill and opened the casting from the back side so I could use a punch to drive them out. Pretty easy to do.

I had some I could not get out of a C. I drilled a 1/4 inch hole from the inside thru the casting. I could put some PB Blaster in from the other end and also tap the pin in and drive it out with a punch. Worked well. You can always use to body putty to make the holes go away when done. Den

Bill, You gotta use a lot of liquid wrench, PB blaster, WD-40 or whatever else you can find, Some heat wouldn"t hurt. I also used a ballpeen hamer and small bolt and beat on it for day"s, Finally came out after about 2 weeks or so, cna"t rember. Also a little prayer wouldn"t hurt. Hope this helps, TractorMike

Try a product called Kroil from Kano Labs. I discovered it recently and ordered some from their website (you can't buy it in stores). It's reasonably priced and works miricles or freeing up frozen parts/bolts.
