hi everyone. this does seem to be the place to get the information i am seeking. today i purchased a ALLIS CHALMERS BACKHOE. it is probably the ugliest yellow critter i have ever seen but, it does have a very heavy-duty appearance. it does look like it has been nelected, as i see more rust than grease or oil or fluid. i want all info available. #######

engine-4 cyl gas-- 149-12491A
torque housing-- D15 4946
tube by L foot-- 3 40144
henry loader---L-100 (1 ad 423-ac)
henry backhoe--mark 1 (1 c45-ac)

this is my project for this year. "SHE" comes home tomorrow so i shall get started then.

By the serial number, the tractor is probably a 3rd-quarter 1961. It probably took Henry a year (or more) to get a backhoe and loader on it, as they were terribly slow. AC bought out Henry about 1967. I transfered from the Farm Equipment Division to the new Industrial Division in the fall of 1969. By then AC had redesigned and stylized the tractors and backhoes.

the 149 motor is 149 cubic inches. the tractor is based on a D15 farm tractor with modifications to the clutch or transmission, and a heavy duty front axle. many parts same as D15. Think it is called a I-400?
