I have an alternator on my Allis and it is not charging the battery. The alternator is farly new on the thing. What does Allis WD tractors have for alternators.

how many wires are on the alternator. there should be a BIG wire on a 1/4 inch stud (or similar) on the back taht goes to the amp meter, othere side of ampmeter goes to the = battery terminal.--- if it is a DELCO 10SI, there will be two spade terminals in line on the OD of the case. #2 terminal is connected to the 12 volt stud on the back of alternator. #1 terminal is 12 volt from the key switch and has no power when tractor is off. you need a dropping resistor or similar in the #1 line to get it to start charging. i use a 10 ohm, 10 watt resistor from radio shack. it is about 3 inches long and 1/4 x 1/4 inch square.

A 5$-25$ junkyard tested gm 10si or 12si will get you going. just need some wire and a trailer lamp bulb.. etc..

That would be something that was added after it was sold by Allis. A WD came out with a generator on them and they where 6 volts systems when new.
