I'm trying to date the "B" I just bought. In the stamped area by the gearshift, the number is pretty worn. There appear to be spaces between the numbers, like: B # # # # #, not B#####. If I'm seeing all the numbers, it's a '39. But the tractor does have a PTO, footbrakes, and electric start. The engine # is no help because it's been replaced with one from a "C". Can any of you more knowledgable folks give me any clues? Thank you. By the way, I also got a plow, a blade, and a cultivator for it, as well as a 4 ft. brush hog. Is there any sort of manual out there for the original implements?

according to Norm Swinford, foot brakes appeared in 1941 at serial number 52718. The Bs and Cs I've seen, including my own, have spaces between the numbers of the serial number, as if it were hand stamped. Not sure when electric start began, but pictures in Swinford's book show an early B with hand brakes and electric lights and starter.

Kevin, thanks for your response. It occurs to me to mention that the brake pedals look different than the clutch pedal. While the clutch pedal is a cast piece, the brake pedals look to be made of bent steel strap. Maybe they were homemade?
