B oil pressure

I'm looking at a B with no oil pressure. Is it worth the risk buying it? The rest of the tractor looks ok and tires are good. It runs and doesn't knock. I don't mind putting in a set of bearings but how expensive is an oil pump?thanks nation

If the tractor has been setting a long time, you may only need to prime the oil pump.To do this remove the tubing that goes to the oil filter from the pipe that comes out of the bell housing and squirt oil down the pipe with an oil can. If the tractor truely has ZERO pressure the question becomes has any damage been done.

This is something easy to try.

The pump cover on the right is the most common cause of lost oil voluum and pressure on this type of pump. That is if you have the correct filter and the stand pipe did not stick in the old filter and get tossed in the trash. The cover on the left is how it should look. The covers can be ground/machined to remove the scores and be as good as new.

I have been running a model CA for a couple of years with about 2lbs on start-up and 0 after warm-up. they did not have much pressure to begin with. as long as you have oil flow, you are ok. might check the pick-up screen for clogging.

sometimes the presure can be adjusted, on top of the oil pump you can adjust the pressure up or down!Old can explain better!

At the very worst, you could have a stuck vane in the oil pump. That means you"d have to split the tractor. With a B, I wouldn"t be too worried tho, you can split thoses in a nice sized 2 car garage. Stuck vane is easy to fix, now that I think about it, you could have lower end trouble too. That would be more money. I would take off the line to the top end and see what comes out there. If nothing, then you got either the stuck vane or major problems. If you got a trickle, that"s not too bad, could still have to problems down the road.

Assuming that it has the proper filter, Fram C159 is one and the current AGCO filter isn't, you should remove it and make sure there is a standpipe in the base that goes into the filter. Sometimes that standpipe will thread out with filter removal and be thrown away.

I agree with old. I'd also check the oil filter.. some filters will kill oil pressure. Also.. on that gauge.. do crack the line and look for oil pressure.. old gauges can be +/- 4psi easilly.. and 4 psi can make a big difference on an old engine..

Might have wrong oil in it too.. real thin auto 10w30 oil.. or somebody put their left over 5w or 0w bmw oil in it...

If there is any oil dribbling out the cracked oil line.. I'd drop a new filter and gauge on it, and some sae 30w oil in it and see where it was... if it comes to life but is a tad low.. like single digits.. use sae 40w might gain a couple psi.... I've seen people run 50w oil just to get another few years down the road..

A lot depends on the price. How do you know it has no preassure?? Did you pull off the oil line going to the guage and make sure it did or didn't have oil running out that line. I have seen a good number of tractors that the gauge said no preassure but it was a bad gauge.

The guy said he pulled the line and it had some flow but no pressure. He wants $500 for it. Every thing else on the tractor seems to work and its fairly clean. Thanks for the comment.

Also as the others have said it maybe as simple as the wrong type of filter. I have a WD engine here that did the same type of thing and I ran if for 5 plus years and when I pulled it out it was still running with no knocks etc. just no oil preassure

Well if the rear tires are good to very good thats probably not to bad a price. I'd probably make an offer of say $350 and see if he bites, you can always go up but never down when it comes to buying one
