I'm looking at a 1972 170 diesel with an AC500 loader on it. Is there anything I should be looking out for? It has 2200 hours and the asking price is $7700. It this about right?

Thanks for the info guys. I didn't get a chance to go look at it yet, but hope to this weekend. Its posted at a sight called "Schmidt and Sons Inc" so if you want to see it you can. klf is that what you would offer for the tractor and loader or just tractor? I have a 1952 CA thats in excellent shape and I was thinking about offering $4000 + the CA and see what happens. That is if everything looks OK on it. What you think?

Seems like a lot of money for that tractor. I wouldn't give any more than $5000, and it would have to be in great shape.

If you use the tractor right it will not jump out of gear. All you have to do is be patient with the gearshift. If you start to move in to gear and it makes a terrible grinding noise. Turn the tractor throttle down to a slow idle and try it again in a few seconds. You cant force it that will break things. They arent powershift tractors. Be patient with them.

Check the transmission, the hundred seris tractors were notorious for jumping out of gear. Usually an involved, expesive repair. With any loader tractor check the clutch, hyd.leaks and crackes/welds on the loader and mounts.
