My grill has a hole at each corner of the screen(in the sheet metal). Are they for some kind of guard? Thanks

I was told that them holes was used to hold a piece of canvas that had a metal rod on each end. The ends of the rods fit in the holes to hold the canvas to prevent cold air from passing through the radiator. I supposed it was used in place of shutters. Someware I have also seen an old picture of a C or B that was working in a salt mine that had a cover over the radiator.

I've seen a lot of back door screen wire stretched over grills. Maybe that's what they were for.
