Anyone had any experiences, good or bad, with the 4sp/with 3 speed shift on the go transmission that came in the initial 7000 AC tractors---they aren't bringing much money, for their size and age, on fastline.com, so I wondered if they were a "problem child", model. Thanks for any info.

I have had exp with two of the red bellys, used in silage pits, loading. After five or six thousand hours we had trouble with reverse gear. It seemed the shifting fork was not getting the trans all the way in gear. Sorta dif to fix, but remember, these were in reverse almost as much as in a forward gear. Other than that we had no prob.

The 7000 in my opinion is a great tractor. I bought a black belly 7000 this summer and the only problem I have had is a few leaks that have been there since I have bought the tractor. The transmission in this tractor is an improved 4spd out of a 200. It has wider gears than a 200 and the transmission also has a transmission brake on it that stops the gears from spinning so they don't grind when you try to engage them. The detent problem that some experienced on the 100 series was also fixed. The black belly has the consol shift while the red belly has the lever on the floor. Both have the same 4 spd. The black belly and red belly both have 3 spd powershift ranges. The red belly, however, used a dry clutch to disengage the transmission while the black belly uses the c1 clutch pack in the powershift. The wet clutch in c1 means that when you depress the clutch pedal, the transmission shift back to 1st range (powershift). The wet clutch is a big plus for baling in my opinion as they can take a lot more slippage. The black belly was also avalible with the heavy 8 bolt front end that the other 7000 series had. It has a 301 cubic inch turbo engine that is every reliable and efficient. Make sure the engine has either a waterfilter or PH test it and make sure it is acceptable. These engines, if the proper addatives or filter wasn't used, will develope problems with cavitation on the sleeves. The powershift on the black belly I think had improvements in the o rings. Compared the the 7010, the 7000 is the same hp, but a lighter tractor. It has a completely different tranny and rear end. The 7010 uses either a 6spd powershift with high-low or a 16/20 spd powerdirector tranny (2spd powershift). These trannys seem to be a little too much mass for the 301 engine from what I heard. The 7000 is kind of a transition tractor. It was allis's tractor that gave them something in the HP of the 200 in the 7000 stylish new looks. It is a very good tractor, but it seems that the demand is not there for them compared to teh 7010, 7020, and 8010. I really like mine and it is really simple to work on. If you have any more questions, let me know. If you can find a black belly, I would go for one of those over a red belly, but the red belly will serve you just fine. Either are good tractors as long as they were maintained and not abused. There were only about 1500 black bellies, so they are kind of hard to find used, but are out there. If you have any more questions, let me know. I was just trying to give you the specifics on the transmission and powershift and a little basic. They are easy tractors to service. Also, the rear end is almost exactly like the 200, 4 pinion differential with a final drive all in the rear housing. They are very good tractors, have more than enough steel for what that tractor will need and are a great value. If I think of anything else, I will post back. If you have any more questions, post back or feel free to e-mail me.
