Question?? On a 1939 "B" Allis, can the universal joint in front of the transmission be replaced without replacing the whole drive shaft up to the clutch???

Thanks for the responses. This is my first orange tractor and I have a lot to learn.

I believe the u joint arrangement was changed to the solid shaft when the CA came out. My 53 B has the solid shaft.

I believe the u joint was better. The shaft uses a coupling like the one on the WD PTO shafts. This is okay, but it has more play in it, and it "bangs" the transmission whenever there is a torque reversal. This is real noisy in my CA. My CA now has transmission problems, and I believe the solid shaft arrangement is the cause.

Has anyone else noticed this or had a similar experience. By the way, I did not purchase a shaft, but I did purchase the coupling, and I believe it was $125.00 a few years ago.

According to the parts book, the u-joint became obsolete and is replaced by a later solid shaft w/o joint.
