Got a WD engine and a WC or WF Transmission in looking at the forum and the manual. Is this possible? Looking at the diagram for the trans, it has the stickshift, bent at the bottom as it goes into the trans. boot, along with the "reverse latch rail" along side the shift lever. The trans. is slightly a different color than the engine and the starter is on top of the transmission. See next post. Starter Problemo

The straight answer is in the tractor serial number- not any casting number. Serial numbers are STAMPED into the tractor when they are put together. When parts are cast, no one knows when they will be used, so they certainly don't ascertain any date of manufacture. If you have a tranny and lever as described, it is not a WD. Either a WC or WF, at least up to that point of the tractor. Maybe you have some morphodite that someone put together from various parts- something AC never made. But if you have a shift lever with the reverse release lock, it is either a WC or WF tranny. WC, WF, WD engine blocks look the same. If it has an AC differential, the serial number is stamped there. Post a picture.

As I said in the other post the engines are the same other then casting numbers which tell you or can tell you the age of the engine. Also a WD-45 eingine will also fit and bolt right in/on to a WD or WC. On a WD the tranny is part of /bolted to the rear end and on a WC the tranny is bolted to the bellhouseing with a tube going back to the rear end.

Agreed! But some folks (only a few) know how to interpret casting numbers which give a clue to age.

I feel like I must have come late. Can't understand what you mean by "never got a straight answer".

Both the WD and WC have starters on top of the bell housing. On a WC or WF, the battery cable attaches on the left side. On a WD and WD-45, the cable attaches on the right.

To almost all people, a WC and WF engine are indecernible from a WD engine.

As you describe it, the whole works sounds WC or WF to me. There are pictures in the Galleries section under "Tractor Photos". They should be helpful in identification.
