3 point hitch on a B question

Hello, I have a home made 3pt hitch on my B. It has a cylinder that appears to be a cylinder from a B or C, or that is what it looks like to me. The rod is 3/4 in diameter with a stroke of about 8 inches. The cylinder is leaking oil pretty badly, and is weak. It has been this way since I bought the tractor, I don't pick up anything real heavy with it, but it is leaking down and I am constantly having to bump the lever to keep whatever I have hooked up off the ground. Is the cylinder rebuildable, and if so would it be strong enough to lift a carry all with 3-400 pounds in it. Or would I be better off putting a stouter cylinder on it? I bought this tractor to resale but I find myself using it alot, and I may want to use it for a little heavier work, like using a finish mower on it. It won't pick a 5ft. one up at all like it is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Brian

Not sure that I understand. If the cylinder is leaking oil onto the ground, it needs to be rebuilt. If the cylinder just slowly falls under load without oil leaking on the ground, the leak is in the valve - not the cylinder.

I had the same problem. The important thing to remember is that Allis hydraulics are high pressure/low flow. If you put a larger diameter cylinder on it, your lift speed will slow considerably. The pump is designed to produce about 2200psi, so, if you can rebuild or locate a good used cylinder, you'll be better off.

that cylinder is a little small for a 3 point. i got one off a CA which is probably 1.5 inch instead of 3/4 inch. that works much better.
