Hey guys, I need help again! I just bought a new 4 ft Brush-Cutter brand bush hog because the store guy said that my Allis Chalmers "C" model will pull it. I bailed off into some sage grass about 2 ft high and promptly stalled the tractor out. Finally, after about an hour and (probably) a burnt out clutch, I got a 20 X 40 ft strip cut.
Shouldn't this tractor pull a 4 ft fairly easily; or am I expecting too much out of the little "C" model??? Thankx again!!

i have a 6ft artsway belly mower on mine; did not cut to good with factory blade set up.i tried a meg-mo system and it does the job.i have even cut brush with it.try a meg-mo systrm ,might cure the problem,look up meg-mo from sterling illinoes;roy megli is can probley help you out.

My B pulls a 5ft tow type through 2ft grass...i do 1st gear, 3/4 throttle...the gov kicks in and all is well. The only time I stalled is when the mower tire found that gofer hole!

the front of the mower should be adjusted lower then the rear or it will cut the grass twice. that will overload it

That and dont slip the clutch. Riding the clutch will keep you from having full RPM"s on your cutter blade. For two foot grass you will need all the RPM"s you can get out of the C.

A big factor is what you are cutting. I use a 5' cutter with my C with out a problem, often going in second gear. If you get into something real heavy, take a narrower cut - as narrow as necessary for the tractor.

Your tractor could be a little light on horsepower. But I don't understand the statement about the clutch. The clutch should be fully engaged at all times while cutting so unless it is already worn out, it shouldn't slip.

2' grass is pretty high. Mine gets to this height but it is pretty thin most of the time.

If your carb has a problem, like the venturi being missing, the tractor will not respond when asked and will promply kill.

Is this a finish type mower or just a pasture type mower? I would think if you are cutting 2' tall grass to 4" or so height it would be too much for the C using a finish mower. Does the mower have some baffles that should be removed for what you are trying to do? Try cutting once at 12" height and come back later a lower finish height.

Theres something wrong with your C, I have a C that is 22 Hp and i can run my 6ft woods rotory mower in 1st gear and i would think yours should handle 4ft without any problem

Well at 23HP it should do just fine with that. Shoot an 8N ford is about the same size and they pull 5 and 6 footers with them. What gear you running?? You need to use 1st gear only or you go to fast and it doesn't have time to cut before your in to, way to much stuff. You also need to run the engine almost wide open to get the gut you need to pull it.

several years ago, I had a CA...don't know how many hosses it was...but couldn't be much more than a C, and it ran a 5 foot bushhog just fine. Wind your engine up and don't get in a hurry. I have stalled my new 65 horse JD by trying to cut fast in tall grass.....I don't care what you, it has it's limits. Unless you were running in 2nd gear or your C is sick..or both, it should pull a 4 footer easy in low gear.
