Can someone tell me the width of the rear end on a model B? We are going to look at one and are wondering how wide the trailer needs to be. We have a heavy duty trailer but it is only 5 feet wide, will have to borrow one if it won't fit on a 5 foot one. Thank you, Barbara

Barbara,
I bought a 39 B last fall and it was 54 inches wide and 111 inches long.

It would probably be best to call the seller and have them measure it for you. The B's came with 2 different center hubs which gave different width adjustments depending on which rims are used and how they are mounted. If you want to take the time, I'm sure the wheels could be set in far enough before you load it, but you may not be up to battling rusted bolts and any other surprises that come with working on a 60 year old tractor.

Thank you. I will call in the morning before we go. By the way, do you think this sounds like a fair price? 1500 dollars. It's supposed to run well, new or good tires all around, model B, not sure of the year, original paint, has a mower, not sure if belly or sickle. Any tips on what to look for? We are not completly new to tractors but are new to Allis Chalmers. Thanks again, Barbara

If it runs well, has electric start, hydraulics and good tires I'd say that is in the ballpark. If it has an adjustable front end (square axle) that would be a plus. If it has this, the rear wheel centers should be dished with 5 bolts holding them on. Standard is the "arched" non-adjustable front end with flat rear wheel centers with one big nut holding them on a tapered shaft. If they are the single nut, make sure they don't have any slop in them. Also check out the rims for rust, steering box for slop, and fenders for rust. Transmission should be smooth in all gears....not a whole lot of problems with these tractors and parts are readily available if you need them. Good Luck!
