2 questions for a WC. When the tractor runs it spits flame out of the exhaust pipe. I rebuilt the carb, new tune-up, starts and runs great except for the flame part. Can't seem to get it dialed in. Any help? Also, the lower gear drive cases (not sure if that's the right term) both leak on the rear tires. Can I just take the covers off and reseal them or is it more involved than that? Thanks for the help.

Flame might be from an exhaust valve not closing (too tight) a quick valve adjustment might do the trick!!!

On the leaking oil seal. They probably need to be replaced.

However, you might have water in the rear end bringing gear lub up on the seal. Suggest draining the rear end. You will need something that will hold about 10 gallons.

When I drained the rear end on my WC I got about 4 gallons of water then the gear lub.

BigR, you don't say it, but I'm going to guess that you have the dual fuel manifold with the side exhaust. I think this is par for the course with this manifold. My WC doesn't have the side exit manifold - has the upright muffler. When I got it, the manifold was badly rotted out next to the head. When it ran, I saw flames all around the manifold next to the head. If you have a muffler, the flames don't get that high (and the manifold is good). If it runs good, I wouldn't worry about it.

Lower case leaks are very common. The only way to repair this is with new seals. I think Allis sells them for about $50 a piece - maybe more. The seal seals on the hub which is about 7" in diameter. The seal is behind the sheet metal cover held in place by about 20 screws. The seal cross section is nearly 1" by 1". There are after-market sources for this seal but I don't know who they are.

The original seals were cork- replacements were $35 each a few months ago, from aftermarket supplier. Agco dealer had them for the same price. Replacements are not cork, but plastic like, poly something.

Thanks, JMS/MN. Mine leak a little so I might do this. The last time I got a price, it was in the $60 range so I decided to pass. $35 is little more palitable only because of the enormous price quotes I once received. $35 is still a lot for so little.
