Husband has 1936WC Allis. The manifold matches pics in manual for low compression engine. There is a small round tank under hood near radiator. The engine s/n is W46136 HA but it looks like the HA is stamped over a lighter K. Does tractor start on gas and run on kerosene? Or has it been modified someway he doesn"t see? Can anyone help and tell us about this tractor, the manual is alittle vague. Thanks.

Unless that tractor has done an awfull lot of nothing in its 60 some odd years its been down for overhaul, The vast great percentage of distillate engines were converted to gasoline compressio ratios at overhaul for more power and they wont run on low grade fuels irregaurdless of manifolding. Id bet the problem with Harry Case"s tractor too, not the manifolding.

Hi Linda My Dad bought a new WC in '36 (which I'm restoring). It is equiped with the little secondary fuel tank plus there are two different pieces to bolt on to the manifold (the part where the exhaust pipe comes out)held on by four bolts, one has a 'G'for gasoline and the other has a 'K' for kerosine very bold in the casting. We tried to burn the distillate a few times with the gas manifold and had no success at all, pre ignition was awful, we never did use the 'K' manifold but I think it was designed to produce more heat so it probably would have burned the cheap fuel ok. Don't ya just love an old WC? Harry Case

Initially (years ago) the tractor (carburator) was started on gasoline - that's the small tank under the hood. After the engine warmed up the carburator was switched to kerosene. Before shutting the engine down, the carburator was switched back to gasoline and ran for a few minutes.

The engine will run just fine on gasoline. No need to use kerosene.

You have it right/ Starts on gasoline from the little tank, burns kerosene or distillate- cheaper fuel, little less power, but adequate.
