I have oil pressure problems and i heard if you replace main bearings it will help. so im going to do it. i was just wondering if any of you would know how much they are.I looked on here and for a main bearing set its about $110.00. i was told they were MUCH cheaper than that.All i need is the 2 bearings . thanks

You don't just "put bearings in" a WC, they need to be fitted for clearance and the correct amount of shims used.Look up how to do it in the archives. If you don't have rod or main knocks I wouldn't bother. If the oil pressure needle moves at all with hot oil it is enough. You have flow. As for oil filter, you HAVE to have one with a perforated metal bottom with rag waste looking stuff inside, usually with a wood pencil like plug to keep the passage open for the metal tube that is in the filter base. Other types of filters don't provide enough back pressure and too much oil goes through them and not enough to the engine.

Ask "old" what he thinks. But, Cam bearings where alot of your oil pressure problems can be.

There is a plug on the side of the motor with a spring and plunger in it. You can take that out and put a small washer behind it. between the spring and cap. So it would be cap, spring, plunger. That would up the pressure some depend on the amount of washers. Don't over do it. Wd and Wd45 don't have much pressure anyway. 10 to 15 lb's is plenty.

John, I'm inclined to echo Steve's comments. Oil filters are a big problem on Allis tractors as there are some manufacturers selling replacement AC filters that do not work.

If the bearing are bad, there is usually more indication than low oil pressure.

I suggest a new Fram 159 filter and a fresh oil change. Use 20W50 oil and then check oil pressure. The wrong filter will yield almost zero oil pressure.

If low oil pressure is caused by bad bearings, some Allis tractors can be brought into spec by adjusting the caps - some bearings are adjustable with shims.

Post back the model of your tractor and serial number. Also give us some other info. For instance how long has oil pressure been low?

i think i would make sure i had a good oil filter, good gauge, good pump, good oil pickup in the pan, etc before i just bought bearings. why do you think the bearings are bad? do you have an engine knock?

Sorry i didnt give the model of tractor.Its a WC. The serial number is unknown.I did the washer thing with the plug and new filter and new oil.The pump was also checked.I still would like to put new bearings in it though.i think it would up the pressure. If you guys could tell me how much that would be that would be great. thanks again

Thoses old WC never di have much oil preassure. When cold your lucky to get 20psi and when warm around 10psi, and thats in a new rebuild to boot. Yep bearing cost around $100 plus and thats just the mains. Aslo just putting them in is like putting a bandade on a gun shot wound it may slow the bleeding but will not fix the problem
