Recently installed a used generator on my D17 series III. Thanks to Steve I have the generator charging battery ok. The generator puts out 39 volts with the arm post grounded. I found out generator is 24 volt gen from a John Deere. Charging voltage to battery thru regulator does not exceed 14 volts. Will I cause any damage if I continue to use this 24 volt generator?

i hav never put a 12 volt regulator on a 24 volt generator, but in theory it should work. if you get a steady 14 volts output to the battery, then you are o.k. i would set at high idle for several minutes and monitor, it it stays at 14 you are good to go.----- should be the F that was grounded not the A??

yes, normal charging v is 13-15v over charging the battery will shorten the life of the battery
