B Sickle Linkage?

I am considering upgrading my B belly sickle mower from manual to hydraulic lift. I am thinking of making the long linkage piece that is used as part of the hydraulic lift mechanism. Does anyone have this arrangement who could describe each end of that part? The part is shown below and the ends circled in red are what I am interested in.

The end towards the rear appears to have a pin in it and the end towards the front appears to have a slotted hole in it. But it's not clear enough to enable a reproduction. I would appreciate anyone describing the end configurations or, better yet, posting a picture of them if possible.

If your mower is like the one in the picture in this post, it is a lot simpler to hook one end of the hydraulic cylinder to the lift linkage on the mower, and then weld a correct size pin on the tubing on the right side of the mower frame. Hook the other end of the cylinder to this pin. We did this to ours, and it works great. This will not work on the No 5 Mower.

Rod, I took some pictures of the lift bar from my mower. I"m not quite sure how top post them for you. The end of the rod that fits on the hydraulic lift arm has ahole that fits over a pin on the arm. the end to the mower has a slot 11/16" x 2" long to accomodate the bolt and bushing shown in the other pictures. This gives everything as little free play. The base material is 1/2 x 1-1/4 steel. It is about 46" from the center of the hole to the middle of the slot. The pictures show the offsets needed to clear brake pedals and latches. If you have hand brake tractor you might not need them. I"m going to try to e-mail the pictures also. Hi Paul,

Thank you for the information and yes, I'd like to see your pictures. Since you mention clearance around the brake pedals (I have foot brakes), I am wondering if you don't also have a hydraulic lift arrangement for a C. See my post to Ken below. As best I can tell from the manual, the actual mowers are the same for the B and C but the hydraulic lift arrangements are different and use very different parts.

Hey Rod!
This is the only picture I have left of my tear down. I would snap you a picture, but I am for hours from the tractor. I sure will if you have not recieved it by the next time I am there. It seems like the front hole is slotted, but it is tight, so must be for adjustment. I will keep looking for the other pictures. They may still be on my hard drive.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the response. Are you sure your linkage is not for a C? Your picture shows that link running over the top of the axle housing rather than under it. The manual that I have indicates that is for the C mechanism. The B linkage is shown running under the axle housing as indicated in the picture in my post. I'd post a picture of the C lifting arrangement but my host (Imageshack) seems to be having access problems this evening. I suppose I could build a C arrangement but I think the B one is simpler and easier to fabricate - at least that what it appears to me just by looking at the drawings in the manual.

Well, I know it is a B tractor, but I do not know what is on it. Since I have a 52 B, maybe it had the later version mower. All I know is it works.
