What is the horsepower of a 1949 "B"? Is it easy to fix or maintain? Value, in good condition? Can it mow 15 acres? Thanks for any info provided in general.

I have a 40 model b that I am using right now. Keven is exactly right.They are easy to maintain, just don't let your grass grow too high (like 2 feet) and you should be ok.

If you can't get your hands on the U of Nebraska test, then Les Larson's book on tractors might also give the hp. Maybe it's on an Allis web site. Should be about 24 pto.

It'll handle 15 acres fine, that's more or less what it was designed for. Us and the neighbors each had one and they played with 5 feet belly mount pto or trailing ground drive horse mowers on that size of field. They were good raking and wagon handling tractors.

I dunno what they go for these days. I would guess not much more than 1500 and probably less.

They never seemed to need much maintenance at all, just remember their limitations. Their brakes ain't all that hot, they do sit up kind of high and they don't have 3 point hitch. They have only three speeds ahead and 1 back. Some of them were crank start only.

Allis fixed most of that later and called it the D-12.

I mow 4 acers here in centeral Alabama with a 52 B and a 160 AC rotary Mower.(however land is flat). The B is easy to maintain, But keep brakes
adjusted, Change oil about every 20-25 hours and keep mower blades sharp, ( saves power). I agree with Kevin Mice & Birds love nesting in "B's". Good luck.

Guessing hp somewhere around 22-23. My experience is they are easy to maintain, mine is a 51. As for mowing 15 acres, depends on terrain and type of mower. I have almost 31 hilly acres and at times the B is too lite (even with weights) and geared too high. Runs a side mower like a champ, could probably handle a small rotary if you're not hogging heavy stuff. These tractors will surprise you as to what they will do,but I say again:on rough ground sometimes too lite and geared too high.

I forgot, my biggest problem is keeping the dang mice out of the axle housings at the brakes, and out of tool box and out of seat and radiator housing. To a mouse a B looks like a condo at the beach.

Like some other old AC's, they don't have much in the brake dept.

If you pull a rotary mower, get an over running clutch.
