Hello, thanks again to everyone who responded to my post yesterday...had some pretty good ideas. especially "OLD" i have seen him on the list for a long time, maybe thats how he got the name "OLD". don't want to take the other route. anyway heres my dilima...just picked up another WD45 today (thanks again to "OLD" for your help) and i love the tractor as far as looks because it has very straight sheet metal but the brakes are worn and the clutch is making noise, the seat is missing but has another seat. i also own another WD45 that the hood is poor,engine is great but leaks oil beneath the radiator.....sooooo what extent does one go to get a good straight tractor....do i start swapping the hood, tires, wide front etc. to get a good tractor? then do i sell the junky WD45 and maybe get 700.00 or do i just start parting it out and what can i expect to get out of a WD45 that has wrinkled hood, loaded tires and is it worth all the time to start parting it out to make a few dollars on ebay or is the answer at a swap meep or orange spectacular in hutchinson, mn.(about 35 minutes away) thanks for your help in advance. also i just saw a motor bring 400.00 on ebay...i would take that in a heartbeat if i decide to part out. ok all you guys that part out or have any info you can tell me would be greatly appreciated.

Don't start trading parts. Just take that wrinkled hood down to the auto body shop and they can iron it out and paint it as good as new, No Bondo. Why not have two good tractors? Ed

Don't get a "Knot" in your Jockeys but ,Are you a dedicated "Restorer" or just looking for Financial returns? You can buy a WD45 ready to go for around $2000.00. If you are a true restorer then all your questions are irrelevant as you will by using your good judgement to decide what you need and what you do not need to put together a copy of a WD45 as it will not be original and In my opinion would not be good for much except to use for Tractor Work.Which is a good objective anyway.Originality means Bragging rights.

What you should do depends entirely upon what your objective is. If you want a good tractor to use it may make sense to invest the time to swap the best parts of both tractors into one to use.

Having done that I would probably keep the remaining parts for spares rather than spending the time to put all of the other parts back together so as to try to sell it as a tractor. If you really want to sell the parts they will no doubt be worth more individually than as a parts tractor anyway.

Dean, thanks so much for the info. i'am a john deere guy from the seventies and have made good money on my investment however i have liked allis in the last few years because i bushog and blade alot and like the oil hand clutch. i just a very paticular person and i hate to see a little wrinkle in my hood. don't get me wrong i just want to change a hood rather than swap an engine and no one will ever know "right" like the guy in az. said "are you a true restorer or not" i guess i'am but i doubt today you are going to find a WD45 in excellent condition without some imperfection in it somewhere and i have found a nice WD45 with mint sheetmetal and engine not so good, besides i did not want to do all that bondo work anyway and then it would be original. ok i have said enough. oh one more thing why do you think they have swap meets. i also collect john deere stationary engines and have parted out over 75 one lungers but the people looking for those parts also have there engine running again and without me they would still sitting there looking for that part. in hence over 110 engines are put to live again.
ok i'am putting the skis on my plane and go fly over the lakes and land at a few.

Good idea- most of the fish houses are off now- due to several inches of water between the ice and snow. When you see more than a few plywood boxes around- should be safe to land! AIRBORNE!
