wc head gasket / manifold ?

i am having the head resurfaced and valves ground. on the original head gasket, there are baffles of different diameters in the holes in the gasket. i assume to direct/restrict the water flow for effective cooling. on the new gasket, all the coolant holes are the same. no baffles. will this still work, or should i try to duplicate the original?

what is a good way to seal the new head gasket? the leaky head gasket is where my repair started.

there is a manifold for a vertical exhaust on it now. i have a manifold for a side exhaust i can install. are there any concerns in switching manifolds?

You need the water restriction in the front holes or the back cylinders will over heat an cause trouble.

I haven't had any problems with the new type head gaskets. I also use what is called copper coat for all head gaskets I put on.

The two manifolds are a direct exchange. The side exhaust has two spacers used on earlier engines. One used on the first manifold stud and the last. The spacer goes directly under the nut - 3/8" flat washers would work. You may or may not need the spacers. Use new gaskets.
