ANY IDEAS ON WHAT CAUSES THE ENGINE TO RUN AT FULL RPM WITH THE NO CHOKE, AND ENGINE IN NUETRAL. WHEN YOU GIVE IT CHOKE IT IDLES DOWN BUT THERE IS A LOT OF SMOKE AND POPPING. IVE TAKEN THE CARB APART AND CLEANED. AND THE SEDIMENT BOWL IS CLEAN. IT SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING IS STUCK OPEN. ANY IDEAS WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION I FINALLY NOTICED THAT THE THROTTLE PLATE WAS GONE. THE SCREWS MUST HAVE LOOSEND UP AND IT FELL IN THE CARB. IT WAS DARK AND COLD WHEN I TOOK IT OFF AND IT MUST HAVE FELL IN THE SNOW, I COULDNT FIND IT. I MADE A NEW ONE (COULDNT BUY JUST THE PLATE), AND WORKS GOOD AS NEW. THANKS FOR THE HELPFULL REPLIES. IM KNOW YOU GUYS WILL BE HEARING MORE FROM ME.

Sounds to me like your carb is working fine. Your problem seems to be linkage and/or the govenor. When the tractor is running, you can grab the throttle link going to the carb and push and pull on it. Moving it one way will increae engine rpm and moving it the other way will reduce engine rpm. If the govenor is good, you'll feel resistance when you try to move it that moves it back to where it was. If it does this, your problem is probably the linkage from the steering wheel to the govenor. Do not pull it so hard that engine rpm increases dramatically. The engine isn't designed to run over 2000 rpm.

When you pull out the choke on a good running engine, you are changing the air fuel mixture to one that is very rich. A rich mixture produces black smoke. When you pull on the choke, you aren't getting the engine to idle. Choking will cause the engine to stall when the air fuel mixture gets so rich that it won't burn.

Sounds like a fairly simple "governor to carb to speed control lever" problem. They dont run fast unless the gov lets them, and the gov dont let them unless the speed control lever does...even if your carb was flooding, it wouldn't do what you're talking about. Make sure that all of your linkages from speed control-to-gov-to-carb are not binding, or rubbing against anything. Hope that helps...

I'm guessing you have it thottle down right?? And ever thing is hooked up right? If os then you have governor problem or linkage is binding some place.
