Hi All,
this is my first post to this forum! I just inherited a 1954 Allis CA model. Im curious about how the PTO works. In order for me to raise the blower with the hydraulics, I need to engage the PTO. the problem with this is that I end up throwing dirt & stones everywhere before getting the blower raised. Also, when im using the bush hog, the PTO quits when I engage the clutch when slowing down or stopping. The tractors manual shows a hand clutch to prevent this, but my tractor doesnt have a hand clutch. Was this an option at one time? Is it possible to have one installed? All help is appreciated. Please email me with your response.
thanks!
Blair

The hand clutch lever comes out of the right hand rear axle housing. If you do not have a lever here or a hole where one was, you may not have a CA. Some one could have put CA decals on a C or B. Are you sure you have a CA?

Unfortunately the pto has to be running for the hydraulics to work....so it doesn't make a very good tractor for brush hogging, snow blowing or post hole digging. For example if you get the digger stuck in a hole you will have to disconnect the pto shaft in order to raise it up without it turning. The hand clutch only allows you to stop movement of the tractor without killing power to the pto when the pto/hydraulics are engaged, a "poor man's" live power.

I`m not the best CA expert around, but you shouldn't have to engage the PTO to use the hydraulics. The CA came with a hand clutch, but for some reason some people removed the hand clutch lever, sounds like that is what happened with yours. You need to get an operators manual and maybe a service manual. I know the CA hand clutch was designed a little different than the hand clutchs on the WD and WD45. I think they worked by stopping power to one rear wheel.

THE CA PTO IS JUST LIKE THE B & C, YOU MUST ENGAGE THE PTO TO OPERATE THE HYDRAULICS. HAND CLUTCH IS AS ELDON STATED. BOB
