Ammeter

I'm almost embarassed to ask this, but I'm doing some wiring on my 1950 WD and I have to connect one wire to the positive side of the ammeter and one to the negative and I'm not sure which is which. Is it safe to assume the "charge" side of the ammeter is positive and the "discharge" side is negative?

Che, your guess sounds reasonable to me and thats how I would try it first, but if the ammeter reads bass ackwards, simply reverse its leads. If wired correct it should swing over to -discharge if lights or ignition (unless a mag) are turned on when shes NOT running then, of course, swing to + charge when running if the charging systems working.

ALSO HOWEVER its wiring also depends on if youre at Positive or Negative ground, but again, if shes wrong simply reverse its leads.

If youre at Negative ground the ammeters + supply side terminal would wire to the battery/starter and the genny and loads would wire to the - load side terminal. If at Positive ground, that reverses.
