Our 4010 is in the shop and the 170 has been doing duty with daily cattle chores. She starts okay in the cold, but sounds like a diesel for several minutes until the oil warms up and gets movin". Can"t be good for the old girl. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good block/engine heater? I"m thinking the magnetic type look pretty inviting, but do they work?

What would you boys use on a bobcat with a air cooled koler, its handy but a cold ride.

I think the block heaters work the best. One of the things I like best about the magnetic heaters is that it's not such a big 'oh s..t' deal when you drive off with the heater still plugged in/attached. I use 5W30 oil in my WD45 for the winter; and a heat lamp in a reflector for the below zero starts.

My self I like the ones that keep the water/antifreeze warm, that way all of the engine is warm not just the oil. Plus a lot of oil heaters burn the oil which hurts the oils ablity to do its job.

In the Cold Winters of Northern ILL where I come from I used a NAPA 110 Volts Block heater on all my Tractors and Trucks. The Kenworth w/335 Cunmmins had a Gas Heater from the local White Dealer. The point is, any Kind of Electric or Gas Fast Heat, Coolant Heater will give Good service if sized properly,However Never,Never ever use a Dipstick Heater. I preferred a Block Heater.
