E330 Gleaner Cornhead Gearboxes

I have found a gleaner cornhead for my E, but the gearboxes I was informed were not the healthiest and I was wondering what other cornheads would have the same gear box?? Or is there even a gearbox underneath? Because some gleaner cornhead had open gears. Your help is greatly appreciated as always.

Yes- sometimes a head will be lettered for both the F and G, or other combo, but if the painted portion of the metal is orange, it should have either one or two gearboxes, depending on how many rows. If you are hunting through ads- you do not want a black head, or any head with 'A' as the prefix. OK, that said, I suppose there might have been a two row orange head made for the Model A combine, and it'll say A240!!!!!. The orange heads date back to the 60s-70s, and can be found in salvage yards or farm sales. I've bought them for as little as $25 and gotten plenty of parts from them. I think the gear boxes are identical across different models.

No The orange corn heads had gear boxes. Black ones didn't. Black cornheads were available with mount kits for the K F M and L. Maybe others.

Best way to know is go ask a knowledgable parts man to check the interchange. Might need to look up the gear box for your cornhead and then look up for a later head.

I know the Black heads won't have much for parts for you maybe the snapping roll flutes and points and that would be about it. Your not missing much though the A series heads are a Pile of Junk in my opinion. I had one and ran it for about 80 acres before replacing with a JD head. Sorry about the rant.

Orange heads have gearboxes, black heads do not. Black heads are Labeled with an 'A', as in A630, A438, etc. Means adjustable. Orange heads are older, are galvanized and orange. Letter designation indicates the machine it was intended for,- K,F,G, etc.
