Helo my name is dean and I have a wd Allis chalmers. My engine has a bit of a nock. I recently replaced the rear crank seal without tearing the motor apart still leaks but not as bad. When I pulled the oil pan I found the oil pickup smashed it seems they used to small a cotter key and the pick up came off. Also the oil seemed like it was thined out.So I installed a new used one and reassembled, ran the new oil maybe for 2hrs.Figured I better drain the oil again. when I drained the oil it seemed thinned out and smelt like gas.Is this possible a valve problem? Still has good power.

God thank the person or persons that put this web site together. Also thanks Bushogpapa, punchie,Chalmersbob,Steve, and BCnT for takeing the time to write a line.I have very little patience for a computer but I am getting better at this. Now back to the tractor.I had 5w3o mobil.I changed the oil to 10w30 and leaned the carb out a bit.Still has a bit of a nock seems like it might be comming more from the front of the motor.I think this is going to have to do for now but I still have a few more questions for you guys.Do any of you add oil to your unleaded gasoline? If so how much what weight? Once again thanks for the info.

I think that sometimes the clutch throw-out-bearing bumps and sounds like a knock sometimes... Change oil and see if that helps...10W-30 should be heavy enough.. The residual seaping from the rear Main may be a leaking seal from the Hydrolic resevoir..they commonly seap and replacing that seal is not easy..you have to pull the engine and maybe the next case, too..

I would use NON-Detergent 30 wt oil. If oil pressure is low I would lean out the carburetor.
But it mabye just smelling like gas and not as bad as it sounds. The nock one the other hand sounds like a bearing. See if it goes away after a while with out running it too hard.

JUST CHECK THE OIL LEVEL ON THE DIPSTICK. IF IT IS FULL, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. IF IT IS OVER FULL THEN YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. FULL, BOB

go by the dip stick level. oil may appear thin, but might be just the heat or appearance. you can look at the level, or pay to do an oil analysis, otherwise you dont know for sure.

you got a carb running too rich or flooding...thats the only thing gonna dilute oil.
