Josh and I are waiting patiently for the PB Blaster to soak thru to the rings and free up the pistons. They're stuck solid. We have found that 2 sleeves (#s 1 & 4) are indeed cracked. The pistons are cast iron - not aluminum. Josh got to do the metal ID test with a little magnet - another learning experience for him. The cam is still in the block and has some rust glaze on it (see pic in the "stuck and troubled" section). I'm hoping that it will clean up with steel wool. Josh will have to find that out. We still need a crank pulley and a governor spring. Is it true that a CA governor spring will give a B a little more pep?

Well I know that you are trying to do this on the cheap but if you know that two of the sleeves are cracked, odds are the other two are not in much better shape.

On mine (cracked sleeves), I screwed around with all sort of PB blaster, trany fluid, Kroil etc for several weeks... I finally had to lay the block on its side, and using a cut off axe handle (fished into the bottom of the piston) and a spitting maul, drive out the sleeves, pistons and rods as one...

Tranny fluid works a lot better then the PB. Plus cost a lot less. I usto use the PB but found tranny works better faster and cheaper. Alos turpentine on top of the PB works well. By the way not paint thinner but turpentine the stuff thats hard to find any more.
