I'm putting the distributor back onto the magneto and I just want to confirm this: I line up the letter "C" on the fiber gear with the red tooth on the flywheel. Is there a better way to do this than eyeballing each mark and hoping they come together when I bring the cap to the mag? In a related question, how do I know if I've got the magneto in the engine slot the right way (and not 180 degrees off?)

I take it that your putting on the mag cap. There is a better day to do that task. Take off your little cover so you can see the rotor. There should be a little block molded in the top of the rotor housing on the cap at about 10 o clock.Line up the rotor so it points to that block. Then take and turn the mag intell the mark or notch on the little gear is stright up then put the cap on the mag and see if the rotor is pointing to the topleft spark plug wire hole. if it is then its good. if you need a drawing email me and i will send one asap Matt Scott
