Hey Y'all, Just thought I'd run this by ya. Thursday I ran my Allis C for about an hour then pulled it back in the shed and was letting it run while I was doing some stuff and then all of a sudden the thing shut off, So I fired it back up and it ran for a couple more minutes then it shut off again?. I tried to re- start it woudn't start, Just kinda smoked. I went out and started it this evening and ran fine for about 10 sec then backfired and quit running. I got it started back up and it sounds like it's running on 1 cyl?. What do you guys think, Think the timing jumped off or do I need a new Mag cap or condencer? Thanks for the info. TractorMike

Check for a good steady stream of fuel to carb just to be sure on that. If plugs are dry figure no fuel if wet figure no spark. When it quits pull a plug wire to see if no fire. If you don't have good blue spark you can figure it's probably coil or condenser. Also check the wiring on the kill switch of mag if it has one and check that out. Heat makes wiring outside engine by heat and wiring in the coil expand and then it will make a break and short but contract to contact after cooling again. Use a new gasket on cap and check it for cracks and tracking inside. Also make sure the vents in the cap aren't plugged with grease, dirt, or bugs nest allowing moisture to condense inside.

Just something to consider, do you live in the north or the south? Up here in the north the gas companys use a winter additive for better fuel burn in winter. If you have bought gas with that in it it will act up when it is warm. Visa versa with the summer gas it will act up in the winter. I'm only throwing out information for your problem. Hope this helps.

That's exactly how my B was acting when the coil started to go bad in the mag...misses, quits, backfires, but would run ok for short periods of time.

Agreed on the gas. Condenser would be on/off with heat and finally just off. The crack sounds right if the bolt wasn't loose on the mag mount.

Just a thought, I had a distributor system act that way with a radical change in temp and humidity, like a heavy snow one day and total thaw the next. I ran it fine at first then it missed so bad I thought it was out of time. LIke getting it hot caused further condensation of water that condensed in there in the first place. It shouldn't be possible with a mag unless the seal is gone. When that happened the cap had visible moisture on removal.

Sounds like mag cap has a crack in it, or an electric problem in mag. Don't think it to be gas.
