I know this is an Allsi Chalmers Forum but I know a lot of you have Duramax experience.
How often should the fuel injectors be cleaned?
Also do you recommend a fuel additive?

We don't have a Duramax but a '95 6.5T with 210,000 miles. Injectors have never been removed and the engine runs like the day we bought it. Keep the tank full (as much as possible), drain the filter housing once a month or so. Change the fuel filter around 10-15000 miles or whatever is recommended for the Duramax. Change the oil & filter regularly.

Be very careful with non-approved additives. Some of these will emulsify the water and send it through the filter and into the pump. Some systems can handle this and others can't and won't. The only additive that I have ever used in ours is the Stanadyne fuel conditioner--approved by GM. Don't know about what is allowed for the Duramax, but again be careful not to add stuff not compatible with that fuel system....Clean fuel and keeping the tank full or near full as much as practicle will go a long way....
