Ref Mace 56: You are correct my father had a 19.54 WD45 with factory wide front end /factory 2 row cornpicker(mounted on tractor)and he had a single front wheel(factory purchased also) which he installed each fall. He did it in a short time by himself. There had to be an easierway to do it (I was to young to help/so I dont know details of how he did it).

My WD has a Schwartz wide front which uses the narrow front pedestal.

It is best to loosen just the left frame rail. If you loosen the right frame rail you may break the seal between the rail and the hydraulic reservoir at the belt pulley hole. Also you need to remove the left bolt for the the engine front support if you loosen the left frame rail. The bolt has a square tapered shim washer that goes under the bolt and on top of the upper surface of the frame rail lower flange. The tapered washer is to be placed so that the the engine support bolt tightens across two parallel surfaces. While you are at the front support for the engine be sure the two bolts that go through the support and into the engine are in place. There should be .005 to .010" interference fit between the block and the support member.

HI Steve

I got one on e-bay 350.00 , took 150 to get her home. It was a three bolt, with tires but; tire are older car tires. So I would say 400-600 is a fair price. I have yet to fit the front to 45 that it is to go on, I need it for mowing hay.

You spread the side frames and replace the whole thing. I got by just loosening one side all the way back to the differential. Needed a jack to spread the side frames. Goes fast if there are no broken bolts. Seven of eight broke on mine!

I have posted this before but I could have sworn that the old WD on our farm had wide front end except when using the picker/ husker, then it was converted to single front. I can't imagine thay would have done all this each year. I will have to ask Dad. Maybe I have the old tractor mixed up with my neighbors WFE.

The later model single front used the same pedestal as the wide front.
There also was available a dual narrow front that fit on the wide front pedestal. I have seen a picture of a tractor with that arrangement; and it is also in the parts book.

Thanks tramway, born in 56 and my early memory seems is still better than my late.

That clears up a mystery for me.
