I have a CA I'm getting ready to sell and I wanted to get it running smooth for the next owner. I rebuilt the carb and put it back on and when I turned the fuel on it leaked. Yesterday I took it off again and checked the float, put on another gasket and then put it back on the tractor. This time when I turned on the fuel there was no leak and it worked fine. There was a little poping going on that I figured was the points, condensor, or plugs so I changed those today and when I turned on the fuel the carb leaked. It sounds good and is running smooth. I know I can just turn off the fuel and let it run itseld dry, but I hate to do that since this tractor is in darn near perfect shape. Any ideas?

Couple things it could be. First the needle seat may not be tight enough. Or if it has one of those new rubber tipped needles its just not seating. To fix that you open it back up and pull the float, the drop the needle in to the seat and tap on the needle with a small hammer or the like. You don't need to tap very hard just enough to set the end of the needle.

I've heard that before so when I had it apart the second time I tapped on it. Maybe I should have tapped harder.

Maybe also double check the seat and make sure its good and tight. I know sometimes because it takes a wide screw driver its hard to get them as tight as they need to be.

I know what your saying. I don't own a screwdriver wide enough for the seats so I've always used a stiff putty knife. Has worked in the past, but maybe not this time. Just can't figure out why there was no leaking yesterday and then today it leaked. Never had this problem before and I really hate having to take it off again, but guess I will - at least one more time. Thanks old for the help. Oh thought I'd ask. You know why I'm getting this freeload link at the bottom of my posts? I know less about computers than I do carbs and can't figure out why it shows up. When I post the message there is nothing in the link bars.

That I have no idea about its just one of those free loaders. As far as your leak you may have picked up a little junk from the gas tank or line and that maybe the problem also.

I sure hope not, but maybe. Hopefully I'll get to it tomorrow evening. I'll take it off and clean it up and blow it out again. Maybe even drain the fuel tank and clean the sediment bowl. Thanks again.
