nos, I believe after a long period of time a disadvantage of the one wire units is they can eventually drain a battery. A diode (one way current flow check valve) can help cure such a problem, but its gonna take like a 50 amp diode depending on the current rating of your alternator. Jury rigged cures might be a 50 amp rated ON/OFF switch or a sort of knife switch or some kind of 50 amp cutout relay device at the battery or starter post or wherever the alternator is wired to turn off/disconnect that One Wire from the battery when shes setting.

However, are you sure its the Alternator and not other minor shorts that may be draining the battery??? You may wanna disconnect the alternator n see if she still discharges and/or trace down other minor shorts. Or else the battery itself may be self draining?? has it been checked???

An "ideal" voltmeter is infinite ohms (open circuit) but none are ideal, where n hows it conencted or switched in ??? Regardless, it should be such high resistance it would take foreverrrrr to drain a good and big battery.

If you remove the ungrounded cable from the battery and attach a test lamp to the battery post and its other end to various wiring locations you can find where theres a bad short to frame ground. Or use a Voltmeter to find high resistance shorts.

the single wire units are supposed to have an internal diode to stop feed back. they are kknown to fail and have the draw down problem you mention. that is one advantage of the 3 wire alternator
