Hi I am new to your board. I am an 8N person but I am borrowing a D-17 for the live PTO. I need to adjust one rear wheel which is power adjust and has slipped out from where it should be. Can you tell me how much to torque the clamping nuts on the ribs to hold the wheel in place? How many HP does a low serial (50XX) D-17 have? How much is a fair price for one of these as I may purchase it from the owner? Also, can someone tell me what the two other levers left of the throttle are for!!!
Thank you for any and all help!

Micheal

The D17 gas was tested at 52 PTO HP, and the diesel 51 PTO HP. If you are talking about the eccentrics that bolt on the wheel centers and go on the rim's rails, then you need to turn them completely clockwise until they stop. This is from my WD45 manual. It also says eccentrics must be turned against stop to be self locking. If you have trouble with the wheel staying at the desired spacing you probably need some clamps on the rails to stop it. The long lever on the bottom is for the lift arms and the short one on top is the Traction Booster lever. I would give a very rough estimate on a good Series I at maybe $1500-$3000. Hope this helps. You need to forget the 8Ns and get a real tractor!

I want to thank all for the responses. You guys are as helpful as the folks on the N-board. I think I may like the Allis iron. My Ford will still have its place on the loader for moving snow, but I may have to invest in an Allis for the live PTO. THank you

The hp is 50 even for both the gas and diesel.

The levers are the hitch and the traction booster I believe.

The D17 is widely viewed as a great tractor.
