I'm looking at adding some power to my farming operation without spending big bucks. Thinking about a 7045/7060/or a 7080. How did the 7080's stand up? Was the fuel economy good? I had heard some rumblings once of engine problems. Were the drive trains bullet proof? There are a few nice looking ones around, but most of them were used like a BIG tractor and are showing it.

Hi jr,

7080 drive train is pretty much bullet proof from the engine back. Engine had some major reliability problems, mainly breaking con rod bolts and then making an air cooled engine out of itself. We have two 8070's where I work. Same engine. We went to a local engine shop who does a lot of Super Stock pulling engines. He secured some con rod bolts from ARP I think. Any who, they cost almost $300.00 for twelve bolts. We have them installed and are presently at about 10,000 hours with no rod bolt failures. Made some pretty good tractors out of them.

These engines are also prone to electrolosis (sic), and should be outfitted with the coolant filter/treatment system found on the 8070's

Thank you for the advice. I just bought an 8070 with front assist showing 2795 hours? I suppose it could be, it is a very clean tractor but i do seriously question the hours. Any way I am interested installing the rods you mention, who is arp and what did the installation cost. Do the 8070's's have the water filter or is this an add on.
