I just opened my pan gasket set, and the corks for the ends appear to be about a half inch too long. Am I supposed to trim these to fit, or cram it all in and hope it stays in place? This is an in chassis repair in a tractomotive loader, it would be difficult to see if it stayed in place.

i just finished replaceing the pan gasket in our wf. dont trim off the corks and if you dont have them clips you can form the corks by placeing them around a can about the same size as the oilpan and rubber binder them in place. They will take a round shape and makes it alot eaiser to install. The corks should be around the can for a couple of days. It also helps im you use permetex's high tack which helps hold the gasket in place on the oil pan hopes this helps you out Matt Scott

Carroll: Do not trim the gaskets. If you purchased an Allis pan gasket set, there should have been 6 clips that you use to hold the gaskets in place while you are installing the pan. If you bought an aftermarket gasket set, you probably didn't have clips included in the set. You will have to make your own clips or find a long time Allis mechanic and see if he will lend you some clips. Good luck.
