first tractor & trying to find out what kind of fluids need to be in my C. I'm pretty sure there is water in the hydraulics so it needs to be changed but heard it could be 30 or hydraulic fluid. also i dont know what goes in the tranny & diff. info would be appreciated

If you buy an operator manual for 15-20 bucks, you get all the required info and more- don't have to rely on what you 'heard', etc. The oils of 50 years ago made the tractor last until now..... .

almost forgot, put a good engine oil filter on the tractor. use FRAM 159 or Baldwin T300M. stay away from WIX or AGCO. wrong filters = no pressure.

the trnasmission/ steering/ pto housing takes 8 quarts of oil. best to use is hytrans or universal hydraulic fluid. you can get at Wal Mart normally or any farm store. it is similar to 20 wt oil, with anti-foam addative. there are 3 of 1/2 inch pipe plugs under the tractor for drains.----- Motor is 10w30 same as your old truck. takes 4 quarts.---- as mentioned, dont forget the final drives. this is the sheetmetal pan on the bottom of final drive housing inside eah rear wheel rim. you have to take off about a dozen 5/16 bolts to take the shttemetal cover off.clean out all the crud and put back on wiht RTV. you can make your own gaskets from material at NAPA. then put a quaart of 80-90 gear lube in each side.

Heyya trying...I was in the same boat as you a couple of months ago when I got a "41 B. I used hytrans (combination hydraulic fluid and trans fluid) in our trans...of course, I"m not sure if yours has hydraulics. If so, this is the stuff to use.
Use multiweight oil in the engine....10W-30 is just about right.
Use the same oil in the generator and starter (if you have "em) cups as in the motor...only takes a few drops in these.
I"d suggest changing the oil/grease/sludge in the bull gears also. I did, and the noises I had in there are gone now. (happy about that for sure!)
The radiator is the same as a car...not aluminum or anything fancy so you can use just about any coolant in there.

Any questions, this is the place for sure! Good luck with your little B...they"re great little tractors! What year is yours and what does it have (electric start, 6-volt, etc)?

Sounds real similar to our B. Lemme know if I can help at all with the little advice I actually have to offer. Most all of it is from this board, but maybe it'll help. I just changed the ground strap that goes from the battery to the frame with a braided steel one from Tractor Supply Company and it really made a difference..caused the starter to spin a lot faster for the 8 or 9 bucks it cost.

my 51 B has a strap to the steering wheel post bolt that goes thru battery box. Is that where yours went too?

Seems like it would work better if it went down to torque tube directly. I have been trying to find a picture that shows how AC did it originally.

On big diesels I work with we recommend a welded stud to a big frame component, ideally one that has nice plated attachment stud with a serrated washer. A little paint or corrosion just kills the connection. Thats 24 volts but they also need major amps!

Side note, I am still working on rear end of mine. Fun Fun. Loose hubs, slid brake drum, etc. Long term project for sure. I just plug away a few hours here and there.
