Serial number is on the rear vertical face of the differential- left side, near a hole with a brake spring hooked into it. Will start with WD. Serial numbers are ALWAYS stamped- not cast. Number goes on near or at the end of the production line. Castings go on anytime befrore that-= numbers mean squat.

Engines can be changed, so the tractor serial number is what to go by. May be covered with paint- try wire brushing the area described. Also, very early WDs had the number stamped in the narrow strip of cast next to the left side of the brake cover. That would be on top of the differential. If you have an operator manual, you will see the picture showing that- tractor number 4004.

Checked the book- it is to the right side of the left brake cover.

There is no serial number around the transmission on a WD. B, C, yes, but not a WD. It is on the differential.
