Hello everybody,bought a little AC-B and it want return to idle if you speed it up. When you pull back the throttle it will die. If you pull it back real slow it will do fine. runs good no missing. Thanks to all for your help.

First off the governor is acting just as it should, don't mess with it. An early production change was to place a steel plug inside of the governor spring. This both helped surge problem and serves to shove the governor arm closed when you throttle back. Look at the spring on top of the governor. If yours does not have a football shaped steel plug inside of the coils get a new spring form AGCO. The link arm MAY also need to be bent just a bit. Chalmers bob has it right, the idle screw is not screwed in far enough, a gentle throttle back dosnt pull the throttle shaft all the way against the idle screw but a fast one will. WDs and WCs will do the same thing. Start the tractor and grab the horizonal rod that goes to the carb and pull it the direction that slows the engine, foreword I believe. The tractor wll die. Find the screw that adjusts idle speed on the back side of the carb. Adjust it in a couple turns. Restart the tractor and pull the rod foreword agaist the idle stop. If idle is too fast back the screw out while holding the rod. If idle speeds up when you let go there is several ways to fix it. Easiest no wrench way around the problem is to pull the throttle lever out to the right past the notches and back. Next easiest is to adjust the rod where it goes through the throttle lever. With engine off push throttle wide open. If it does not go all the way to the last notch adjust the rod in the lever (the little square headed set screw) so it is in the last notch when it wont go any farter foreword. If the throttle is presently going to the last notch when wide open you need to bend the governor arm.

Yep...clean up and oil your governor...make sur that oil for the gov travels thru the little tube attached to the top. That keeps oil on the moving parts inside. It's not hard to pull the gov off and clean it out either...just make careful note of how everything is put together inside...especially which way the bearing in the middle faces. Oil up and adjust the linkage, both between the speed control lever and the gov...and between the gov and the carb. Also, make sure you have a surge spring that runs from one of the exhaust manifold studs, to a small hole in the carb linkage. This puts a very light pressure on the linkage toward the open position, opposing the governor's desire to close it.

Check the governor and see if it's stiff. It shouldn't be. The spring can't compensate if it is. Also make sure the spring is still there.

Thanks everybody for all of your help. I replaced the spring,adjusted the idle screw and cleaned out the gov. runs perfect now Thanks again for all of the help. BrahmaMan

YOU COULD TRY ADJUSTING THE IDLE SCREW LOCATED BEHIND THE CARB. IF ITS NOT SET RIGHT IT WILL CAUSE THE TRACTOR TO SHUT OFF INSTEAD OF IDLEING. BOB
