#1 terminal goes to ign side of switch with a idiot lite or a 10 ohm resistor inline...If you want a voltmeter tie one side to this lead and terminate other side to ground...ammeter goes inline
#2 termial is sensor that goes directly to positive side of battery...i've just looped it over to armature post on alternator...doesnt seem to hurt anything

BC, to add a lil to your info for Denny, in the rare event the tractor still runs even with the ignition shut off (cuz the alternator back feeds the ignition coil even if Off), then you have to also add a diode (one way current flow check valve) in that excitation circuit that goes to the lil No. 1 side terminal on a GM 10 SI Alternator. The 10 ohm resistor is to provide current limiting protection for the alternators internal diodes (many wire them direct and dont use any current limiting) while the diode prevents run on if needed.

Regarding the lil side No. 2 sensing terminal, I just wire that direct up to the Alternatos big main output stud.

Often the resistance or idiot light alone will provide sufficient backfeed resistance to prevent run on, but I have seen tractors that WOULD NOT DIE unles a diode was added. The slower they will idle the less chance of run on. I have a very basic generic diagram if anyone wnats one, but there are better ones floating around.

i can believe that...seen a buncha weird stuff happen i cant explain...i got a '85 ford pickup my Dad bought new that somehow shorted out the fusible link that powers the EEC4 computer and it still runs just fine...its been retired to the pasture so hopefully it'll quit running one of these days and i can figger out what happened ;)

on them delco alternators...way it was explained to me the #1 terminal is grounded when alternator is not charging and the current coming from switch turns on the light and excites the fields...when the alternator starts charging the #1 terminal switches to positive current flow and turns off the light...i've used resistors to replace the light or added resistors if the bulb doesnt draw enuff current.

i'll swap ya schematics if ya want...this one is scanned out of a chiltons manual but they stole it from GM

HEY BC WHERE ARE YOU FROM. I'M JUST STARTING IN THIS HOBBY OR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT AND HAVE READ YOUR INFO A LOT. DENNY HAS BEEN A GREAT HELP AND I'M NOT READY TO GIVE A LOT OF ADVISE. SCARED ME WHEN HE ASKED FOR ME. HE SEEMS AS YOU TO BE A GREAT GUY. I'M FROM INDIANA.

just another dang Texan here Jim...i been turnin wrenches for over 40 years on mostly cars,trucks,and motorcycles but i always took care of family farm equiptment too...show me a bolt out of a '62 Ford 2000 tractor and i'll tell ya where it goes lol...not really up on other brands YET but i'm workin on it since i bought that Series 1 D*^%*&#!#$^*^17
