Hello yet again. I was wondering if the crescent-shaped drawbar on the back of our B is the actual drawbar or if there was an arm like a "swinging drawbar" that went overtop of it? I"m asking because if, in the future, I ever wanted to pull a drawbar load I"d like to hook it up safely. Thanks again. It amazes me how great this forum is.

There are three drawbars.

The crescent (curved) drawbar is standard. All of my tractors have one of these.

The one (ASAE?) mentioned is a triangular plate that sticks out behind the crescent. Usually these have rigid supports up to the the big angle iron fender braces. This is similar to riding mower hitches. This is very handy for towing tongue euqipped devices when the tractor has equipment that uses the main drawbar on it (like the belly mounted sickle mower). It extends the hitch point rearward and centered, which can help the PTO driveline angles. I suspect, as noted earlier, it alighns the posiiton of the hitch with the ASAE PTO dirveline mounting recommendations, on a tractor that was designed before the agreements. I have seen pictures of these but never a real one, they look like they probably would bend under heavy tongue loads and probably many were scrapped.

The other one is a swinging version. It starts with the crescent similar to the base, then has a strap concoction that locates the pull point of the swinging tongue forward of the normal swing point. The cushion blocks on mine are wood! Thus the hitch point be repositioned in a tighter arc just rearward of the main hitch. These are light duty and can be bent (pulled out) by too heavy a load or a sudden jolt. I have seen these on several C's but only one on a B (and I have it!).

WHAT TEXAS DENNY BUILT IS A VARIATION OF THE PTO DRWABAR THAT ALLIS MADE AS AN ACCESSORY FOR THE B AND C. IT WAS WEDGE SHAPED AND WAS WIDE ENOUGH TO BOLT TO 2 D/B HOLES AND STUCK OUT THE BACK 6-8". ALSO CAME WITH SUPPORTS THAT BOLTED TO D/B AND TO THE ANGLE SEAT AND GUARD ASSEMBLY.(SEAT SUPPORTS)THEY WERE TO REINFORCE THE D/B DUE TO THE NEW HITCH POINT. THEY WERE ADJUSTABLE TO D/B HEIGHT

I've seen swinging drawbar systems for both the C and B. But I haven't seen many. Most people hook the load directly to the drawbar. It will work fine if you are using a ball hitch. If you are using the old pin hitch, this could reduce your turning ability. On mine, I made an extension that put the hitch point six inches further to the rear. The part looked like a Tee with two holes in the top of the tee that matched two holes on the drawbar. The protruding part of the T is about 3" wide with a single hole 1" from the end. It works great with my wagon.

That sounds like an excellent idea Denny. What material did you use to build it? I'd really like to try to get one made up like it. Do you know of anyone who could do so? Thanks for the reply and the great idea.

I used 1/2" steel plate. Probably the easiest way is to get two pieces 1/2x3 and 6" long. Then weld them in a T and drill the three holes (two for mounting to drawbar and one for the drawbar pin). I can't remember if 6" for the top of the T is wide enough to catch the holes on either side of center. May need to be wider.

The swinging drawbar was an accessory available for the B & C. I happen to have an NOS one I plan to use on one of my tractors.

I'd like to see what it looks like if you get around to using it one of these days. Thanks for the reply.
