I AM LOOKING AT PURCHASING AN ALLIS 190 AND DON'T HAVE MUCH EXPERIENCE WITH THEM. THE BRAKES DON'T WORK VERY WELL AND THE QUICK HITCH DOESN'T MOVE.
I'M WONDERING IF THE BRAKES WILL BE A BIG DEAL AND IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING ON THE QUICK HITCH. THE REMOTE HYDRAULICS WORK WELL ALONG WITH THE POWER STEERING AND WHEN YOU HIT THE LEVER TO MOVE THE HITCH YOU CAN HEAR THE HYDRAULIC PUMP UNDER LOAD. ALSO ARE THERE ANY OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THESE TRACTORS I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT OR LOOK FOR. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Brakes should be easy to fix. Hydraulic pump is external and removes quickly, if that is the problem. The weakest point on this series of tractors is the transmission. They tend to pop out of gear if the trans. is worn or abused. Put tractor in gear and pull a load or go down hill, this usually causes them to pop out, if the gears are worn.

Like chp said, the brakes are not difficult. Unbolting the plate on the side of the differential above the axle housing will give access to the drum and disc.
The hydraulic pump, which is on the engine, is probably not the problem. It sounds like a line restriction or binding in the lift. I would check the lines to the lift cylinder.

I really don't have anything on the 190 but it's vintage is close to my TLB. On it, they used a brake on the primary shaft and it never works that well (which doesn't much matter when you can drop an 11000 pound hoe in a heartbeat and stop yourself when in danger ;-)). I've never worked on the brake but it is a single "flywheel" at the center of the shaft and very accessible. Brakes wouldn't worry me to repair if it is like the hoe. The hydraulics are another matter as it probably indicates some serious problems if they are housed internally like the earlier D series. I'd pay bottom dollar for it if I could see a complete breakdown coming. Sorry I don't have more than speculation here.
