A couple of pages ago we discussed WD's that flutter under no load but run OK at idle and under load. I did the usual tuneup and carb rebuild with no change. My problem was I hadn't read the I&T manual (don't panic, I STILL haven't read it, I just had someone tell me what it said!) You have to set the timing to the "F" or "Fire" mark on the flywheel at full advence (1100RPM), not at idle. If you set it at idle, you'll be 30 degrees off. I did this, and now she purrs.

Tim I want to thank you for that advice.I never considered the timing to be off,so that is why I never messed with it.I went home after seeing this and loosened the distributor with the engine running wide open and turned it about an eigth of an inch counterclockwise and low and behold she purres like a kitten. This was never a real big deal but other tractors ran smooth and I was embarrassed to let other people hear it run that way.THANKS
