dfID have bought a model g and reading through the service manual. It tells about a low forward speed.
The book states that there is special low shift rail in the gear shift mechanism.
Do all model g transmission come with the specal low shift gear?
Any help would be greatly apperiacted as I would like to put this old g back in to service in the vidalia onion fields.

There are books that say low low was an option, but I have never found one yet that didn't have it. Sometimes the shift rail gets slid out of place and the shifter won't pick it up. Low low is all the way to the right and down. If you can't find it, take off the seat and then the snap ring and pull out the shift lever. Take a light and look to the LH side for the rail and line up the notches with a long screw driver. I had to do this with the last G I bought, it was a little sticky at first from not being used but works great now. Seller swore it didn't have low low ('cause he read in a book that it was an option)....I didn't argue with him - just lowered my offer :-).

I took the cover off the side of two of my G"s rather than pull out the shifter lever. I am glad I did because both needed a little repair to keep the shifter in the propper place for the low low. I have not started to disassemble my third G as yet. When I do I will take pictures of the problem I found on the others.

Place a jack under the drawbar to hold the back of the engine from dropping down and remove the four studs on the front of the transmission and pull the torque tube forward a bit and I think you will find what is in the picture or the remnants of.

This is where the low gear is located.

According to my sources, the slow gear was an option. There is no external mark for slow gear. You simply try various positions to see if you have it. I had mine a year before someone pointed out to me that i had it.
