The mower I bought for my tractor at auction was after I got it home different than what was made for the tractor. After looking at the info for the CA mower it aperars to be the unit I have. I have mounted the unit on the tractor I have and with a little bit of unbolting and changing the mounts I have it working. The problem I have is with it lifting. The only place I can see for lifting up the mower is all the way up front. I tried to mount the hydro cylinder I have to push it forward but it just wont move it. My question is does the hydrolic pump have enough push for 4' of hose? Do I have a weak pump? How will I know if the pump is weak? I can get it to try but will just stop. I'm not trying to lift the bar for transport but just for the end of the row. I need to get this mower running and this is the last thing I have to do to have it running. I hope one of you out there have been through this before. I could use the help.

The NO 5 mower does have a curved bracket at the front for mounting, but it takes a different bracket for the B & C. The CA requires a different bracket because the distance from the bell housing to the drawbar is longer. The book shows the different brackets.

The mower that you have is idendtified as a No. 5 mower. It is very similar to the BC mower, but was modified to fit on the CA. I told you in an earlier post that I thought the cylinder should be pushing back, but I believe that I was wrong, and it should be pushing forward. I believe that I have the book on this mower. I do not presently have E Mail. If you contact me with you name and address, I will try to send you copies of the information that you need. Steve from IL has furnishe you with good information as to how to check your pump. Good luck.

I would like to see the book and or have a copy made. Let me know wat it would cost and and adress to sent to. I have the BCa copy but if this is a # 5 then I could see better as to how it mounts. Does it have the curved front supports or are they straight? The one I have has the curve.

Ed, the pump puts out over 3000 psi and the cylinder is acouple square inches so it has 6000 pounds of lift = no problem. your problem is int he pump. the transmission/ bevel gear/ hydraulics are all one compartment. you need to make sure it is full, has no water, and has the right oil. if you have 90wt gear lube it will not work. you need a 20 or 30 wt motor oil, or hydraulic fluid like hytrans. there are thre plugs on the bottom of the three compartments, pull one and drain out a quart and see what it looks like. no water, clean?? if it looks bad, change it. if youi know it is o.k., take the hose off the cylidner and put it in a gallon bucket. start tractor and engage the lever and pump out a quart into the bucket and see it has good flow and constant, no air entrained. if all is o.k. and the cylinder is good, then pump has no pressure.

Unless your pump is weak, it should lift the mower if hooked up properly. The pump will easily handle 4 feet of hose. We have a BC Mower that we modified the lift, and the pump lifts this easily. I am not familiar with the lift mechanism on a CA Mower. We welded a short rod on the tubular side frame of the mower and hooked in into the lifting arms of the mower. You say that you are pushing forward, if believe you should be pushing backward. I believe the CA used a tube to extend the reach of the hydraulic cylinder. I believe that I have a book for this mower. Send me your name and address and I will send you a copy of the hookup if I have it. The mower for the CA could also be used on the B and the C. The mounting brackets were different and the hydraulic lift was slightly different. My address is Box 156, Canton, Pa 17724-0156. Hope this helps.
