Well I got the D17 home !!! It will be a project. trying some things before I get into the engine. I drove it about 24 miles to get it home and it did use some oil. I hope to get the rings loosened up but if not, I'll get into the engine later. I need some gauges and some minor work as far as battery plate and some cables. It starts real easy and the ps works well and I'm starting the cleaning process. Minor leak on the tube going to the traction booster gauge. I don't need it for any thing except snow removal on my driveway so I'll take my time and hope to have a good tractor after a few months. I have access to a three point from Dad at no expence (love those Dad's). Manuals on the way. I'll have questions and keep you posted. Former 44JIM (A 44 will be next)

Put some tranny fluid say about 1/4-1/2 cup per cylinder and let it sit a day or 2 and that will help loosen up the rings and also clean things up in the cylinders. Then run it a little and change the oil. You will be surpriced how much it will help. Did it to one engine that had around 75psi compression and the engine now runs at around 95-100

good to hear ya made it...was air cleaner plugged up or carb leaking internally? you may have diluted oil causing it to smoke if its still running rich...pull the dip stick and smell oil...if its got gassy aroma you may have found prob...or part of it anyhow.

Tahnks for the tip. Carb needs cleaned can't even adjust, so I'll clean and rebuild. Yes the air cleaner is really dirty. Don't know abut plugged. But I will as I get into it. 17JIM

GET A PRODUCT CALLED "SEAFOAM" AT NAPA AND PUT IT IN THE CYLINDERS TO FREE THE RINGS. THEY SAY IT WORKS WONDERS. HAVEN'T TRIED IT YET, BUT GOT 2 CANS. BOB

That Seafoam is good stuff. I thought at first snake oil but I have used it on my daily driver (work car) and it has done a great job.

Just rescued a '92 Airex motor home and ran a can thru it. Rig runs great but needs some work on the map sensor as the timing keeps advancing and overheating.

Worth the $$ in my opinion.
