I'm new to this site. I grew up driving Case and Allis Chalmers...I have two Case tractors SC and VAC..

Reason for post. My son just bought a WD with a bucket. Does not know the year, but does not have live hyraulics. Seller said it had a two point hitch system and could be modified to a three point. What's the cost of doing that?

Couple other problems. It leaks some from the middle and looks like oil so must the the main motor seal. How much of a job to split tractor--or can the moter just be lifted?

Also noticed the right brake either needs adjustment or new bands--How much of a job?

Also, are manuals available?

Thanks for any help you might give.

The only tractor I have ever split was a WD to change the hand clutch and a bearing. I was happy to have such an easy operation. The main thing is to have the front end blocked up solidly and roll the back end away.

Thanks for the helpful comments guys. Have a couple more questions.

We do not know if this is a WD or a WD 45. The decal says only WD. How do you tell the difference?

He has a loader on it with a trip bucket--only the boom has hydraulics. How hard would it be to "hydraulasize" the bucket (to coin a new word) to make it more versatile?

Also, Is there a way to use the 2 point and still keep the hydraulics hooked to the loader and use that too, or do you have to disconnect and support the boom? Hope my question is clear. What I want to know is can you use the back hydraulics and loader at same time or have a valve to divert from one to the other or some such without uncoupling (interchangably)?

Handful of differences between the WD and 45. On the right side of the engine the WD will have a removable plate over the tappets the 45 will have a solid block there. Most WD's have a straight shift lever. Very few late WD's and all the 45's the lever will be curved. WD will have a cast iron cover on the brake housing on the right that the seat mounts to 45 has a steel bracket sandwiched in. Serial number is stamped vertically on the back of the left brake housing. Keep in mind most of the parts mentioned interchange and often do through the years. That includes engines.

As to adding a hydraulic bucket that is another story. The hydraulics on the WD's and 45's left a little to be desired. IMHO they don't make good loader tractors unless you install completly separate hydraulic system. If you decide to use the factory hydraulics remember they are a 4000 psi system and will blow apart some cylinders if you can get enough oil. If you really want to use it a lot as a loader put on a crank driven pump, resevoir, valve, and oh yeah you will need different cylinders on the arms also. If you are using the loader occasionally for snow leave the trip bucket.

Sorry about the long post.

Not a design Id recommend anyone pulled anything substantial with. The upper drawbar support brackets are not meant for that sort of abuse. Attaching directly to the drawbar is far far better and does not eliminate the operation of the traction boost system.

You can buy aftermarket as well as original manuals from vendors on this sight, on ebay, or even get manual for AGCO.

As already said the hydraulics and PTO continue to operate when using the hand clutch, but not the foot clutch.

Cross Mfg. makes the best 3 point conversion in my opinion. Lots of people sell them and they run around $300 or so new.

The hitch system is called a snap coupler, it has 3 points of attachment just like a 3 point; 2 lift arms and 1 other. IH or Farmall made a system called a 2 point, AC did not.

Brake bands aren't too much of a job in my opinion. Splitting a tractor can be, it all depends on a persons mechanical ability.

The tractor has live hyraulics when using the hand clutch. There nicest three point conversion I saw is about $450.00 but you can get them cheaper.
The leak from the middle could be the motor or the cork seal for the belt pulley.
Brakes are easey to adjust by removing the covers above the brakes. The biggest problem replacing the brakes is removing the lower pin. Some people will weld threaded rod to them, put a pipe over the rod and use a washer and nut to make a puller.
Hope this helps

Be sure to buy new brake pins, heat the old ones up and drive em out while cutting the ends off with a torch as you go inch by inch. Easiest way my dad and I found to do them.
