OK, I HAVE A 1962 MODEL D17, JUST PURCHASED AND GETTING OPERATORS MANUAL AND IT MANUEL LINED UP. I AM SURE THE TRACTOR AS IT RUNS IS OVER FUELED AND NEED TO KNOW IF I CAN MAKE A QUICK ADJUSTMENT ON THE CARB TO LEAN IT BACK BEFORE DRIVING IT HOME. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO HAVE THE BEST PLUG TO PUT IN IT BEFORE DRIVING IT HOME. I DON'T CARE FOR CHAMPIONS AS WHEN I WAS HOME AS A KID DAD NEVER USED CHAMPIONS IN HIS WD45'S OR D17. THANKS IN ADVANCE 44JIM

44Jim, BCnt makes an excellent point. Sometimes people don't maintain these oil bath air cleaners and they get do clogged up that hardly any air will flow. The result is a very rich mixture. If things improve with the hose off, I'd leave it off until you get home. If nothing changes, their will be both an idle screw and a power valve adjustment. The power valve looks like it comes in from the bottom at an angle. Probably a marvel schebler carb. The starting position on the idle screw (on top facing rear) is 1 1/4 turns out. The starting position for the power or load screw is 1 1/2 turns out. The idle can be adjusted with the tractor idling. The load screw is complicated because the best setting is found under load. If the screws are worn, the best setting may be in from the starting position. Turn each screw in until it bottoms out - but don't tighten it. Then back it out the prescribed amount.

Plugs are shown as AC 45XL or Autolite AG-5. Gap is supposed to be 0.025". If the plan is light use, Allis recommends AC 47XL.

I have had problems with Champions as well on my WD with 4 1/8 cylinders. New plugs wouldn't fire.

YOU'LL FIND OVER ON THE LEFT SIDE OF YOUR KEYBOARD A LITTLE KEY LABELED CAPS LOCK. WHEN YOU PUSH IT your computer can then type lower case letters, which makes your posts much easier to read.

you mite pull air cleaner hose off carb and see if it runs any better...i've seen more n 1 air cleaner stopped up by dirt daubers if they sit too long...if its a Marvel/Schebler carb you MITE be able to lean it up some but if its flooding real bad chances are main needle and seat are bad.
